Off to A&E we went

I *would* have written something last night… but Chantelle got a chunk of glass in her foot. Somehow, yesterday afternoon, there was a washing-up slide, which resulted in the demise of one of our dwindling stock of wine glasses. We thought we’d got all the bits. Obviously not…

Later, whilst standing in the kitchen, eating M+Ms’ (as you do), she felt a pain in her left sole. She went to brush the offending crumb off on the top of her right foot, and screamed.

Examination of the right foot showed a big slice in it (complete with flappy bit of skin), and copious blood. No glass though… Following a certain amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth, we got organised and into the car, along with a poor little sleeping baby, and headed off to the Riverside Clinic.

As it is a minor injuries unit, rather than the main A&E at Ipswich hospital, the wait was much more reasonable - about an hour. When she got called in, I did try and go in with her, for some moral support, but SmallTroll was playing up, so we went and waited in the waiting room (obviously).

After a certain amount of waiting around, a nurse came through laughing, and informed us that it was a boy, and that mothe rand child were doing well. It seems the glass sliver had actually been quite big, 5mm long, and really quite deep, as they hadn’t been able to feel it from the outside. It’s a good job we did get it seen to, as it was close to the tendon at the top of the big toe, and could have done some damage if it had been left.

Fun and games…
