Google UI tweak : “This site may harm your computer.”
Following on from Shoemoneys comments about Google using an interstitial page to warn users about malware on pussy.org, it seems that someone at the ‘Plex took note, and made changes to how such events are handled, by converting the interstitial to a note in the actual SERP, thus :
(NB Sorry about the dodgy image quality : I’ll try and find a better place to host this one)
I think that’s a good move. Interstitials have a tendency to piss off most users, and the link as given there points to a Google help page explaining what it’s all about for n00b users. That page references www.stopbadware.org as the body that is supplying the “bad site” status data. The data seems to be being drawn from a number of sources, although Google are by FAR the most prolific contributor.
I guess that’s inevitable, given their current position in the great scheme of things online at the moment. Stopbadware are far from being Google’s patsy though, the list of those involved includes many of the great and the good of the WWW.
As it happens, I came across that particular example whilst looking for a walkthrough for Star Trek : Tactical Assault on the PSP. I can’t get “excellent” ratings for ALL the missions yet
I found it was easy enough to find a few more examples looking for “warez” type terms, and I expect plenty of pr0n searches woudl throw some up too
